LANGDON LEGACIES
A community engagement project that helps promote existing community initiatives that make Langdon a wonderful place to live, while creating new opportunities for like minded individuals to connect.
COMMUNITY PRIDE
Langdon Legacies was a community engagement project based in Langdon throughout 2016. The goal of the project was to increase awareness for existing initiatives that make Langdon a wonderful place to call home, while creating new opportunities for like-minded individuals to connect.
Langdon is a vibrant, growing hamlet rich with remarkable residents who care about their neighbours and the community as a whole. By creating opportunities for neighbours to connect and start conversations about the topics that influence them, we become more engaged and feel a greater sense of belonging, responsibility and community pride.
COMMUNITY ART
Throughout the Spring and Summer of 2016, Langdon Legacies completed a number of community art projects and installations. Each project served as an opportunity to stimulate a conversation about how and why preserving Langdon’s unique sense of community mindedness for future generations is important.
Time Capsule:
In 1983 the Langdon Community Association sponsored a time capsule. Over the course of the winter/spring of 2016 Langdon Legacies collected contributions from locals towards a new Time Capsule to replace it. On June 18th, at the Langdon Celebrates event, the historical Time Capsule was unearthed, followed by the planting of a new time capsule in Langdon field.
Youth Art Projects:
The grade 3, 4 & 5 Fine Arts students of Langdon Elementary school collaborated with Langdon YELL and Shout members to clean, paint and seal 90 brilliant repurposed horse shoes, which were then used as gorgeous planter box markers and to adorn the peace poles. The YELL members and Summer Drop In participants created amazing glow-in-the-dark stepping stones which have been laid in the Youth section of the Community Garden alongside the Culvert Planters painted by two extremely dedicated Youth Volunteers.
The Langdon YELL and Shout members also played a key role in choosing the Horseshoe Art pieces created by a local artist which are installed in the Langdon Community Garden.
Peace Poles:
Cedar poles were lovingly cut stained and planted by a dedicated and selfless local volunteer. The peace poles were decorated by painted horse shoes and ceramic names plates (with the names of local families, groups, and individuals).

Langdon Celebrates: It’s Past, Present & Future Event:
In collaboration with the Langdon Community Collaborative, the Langdon Community Association and the Langdon Community Garden Society, we held a Community Pancake Breakfast to celebrate the past, present and future volunteers of Langdon. Over 150 residents enjoyed pancakes and took part in the time capsule ceremonies, the Grand Opening of the Community Garden and the Volunteer of the Year Awards.
