ABOUT COFFEE TALK
For many members, YELL holds a very strong social connection and is an opportunity to build healthy relationships with peers and mentors through sharing our lives and interests. To facilitate this, we have adapted YELL to provide a 1.5 hour, weekly “Coffee Talk” for youth in both Langdon and Chestermere. This is a less formal setting where youth will chat about their weeks, and discuss the social issues that are important to them, or are impacting them personally. Coffee Talk uses a peer support model to allow youth to open up to one another in a safe and supportive environment. This year, we are incorporating workshops held once a month on a Saturday that will help youth gain skills they need to thrive as adults. Workshops include topics such as financial literacy, the basics of moving out, adulting 101, and managing your inner critic. Although the session starts at 6, youth are welcome to come at 5:30 to socialize, and help make a healthy meal or snack that will be shared during the session.
